UNESCO Adds Greece's Mount Olympus, Ancient Japanese Capitals to World Heritage List The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added three new sites to its prestigious World Heritage List: Greece's iconic Mount Olympus, the ancient Japanese capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara, and South Sudan's Boma Badingilo Migratory Landscape.

The inclusion of Mount Olympus on the list is a significant recognition of Greece's efforts to protect its rich cultural and natural patrimony.

Evangelos Geroliolios, mayor of Dion Olympus, noted that this designation brings greater obligations to safeguard the environment and mitigate the impact of increased tourism.
