The Fine Print: AliExpress's Sudden Scrutiny The European Union has imposed a €550 million ($630 million) fine on online retailer AliExpress, marking a significant escalation in Brussels' efforts to police big tech and safeguard consumer rights.
This massive penalty was levied under the Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into force in 2022. EU regulators launched an investigation into AliExpress's activities just eight months ago, in March 2024.
They had been monitoring the platform for compliance with bloc wide safety and environmental standards.
